TRANSFORMING LIVES. STRENGTHENING FAMILIES.

TRANSFORMING LIVES. STRENGTHENING FAMILIES.

Railway Children Africa work to create positive, sustainable change for children and young people living alone and at risk on the streets.

EMPOWERING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE TO LEAVE STREET LIFE BEHIND

Every day, thousands of children struggle to survive on the streets of Tanzania. Many have run away from poverty, neglect and abuse, having travelled miles from home in search of a better life in the city. But often what they find once they get there is even worse.

On the streets, they face violence, abuse and exploitation. Typically, these children are locked out of healthcare, education, social services and opportunities to thrive.

We believe in a world where no child ever has to live on the streets.

We work in Mwanza and Dar es Salaam to reach children before, during and after their time on the streets. Our aim is to restore hope, provide safety and foster positive coping strategies for reintegration into families and the community.

REWRITING FUTURES: FOUR PILLARS FOR LASTING CHANGE

From how we help young people and families to who we collaborate with and where we place our efforts in driving change – each pillar of our work is underpinned by what we’ve learnt from street-connected children in the last 14 years.

1. Protecting vulnerable children and supporting their families

2. Empowering communities and strengthening responses

3. Strengthening child protection systems and policies

4. Developing a case for change and strengthening the evidence base
